No:461/25, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi

On 8 December 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who was on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
The one-on-one meeting between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi was followed by an expanded meeting with the participation of the delegations of both sides.
During the meetings, current issues on the Azerbaijan–Iran bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda, as well as regional and global developments, were discussed.
It was noted that the relations between Azerbaijan and Iran are based on good neighborliness and mutual respect between the states, as well as historical, cultural, and religious common roots between the peoples.
The importance of friendly relations between the Presidents of the two countries for interstate relations was emphasized, and it was noted that the visits of the President of Iran to Azerbaijan in 2025, as well as his meetings with the President of Azerbaijan, gave new impetus to bilateral cooperation.
It was highlighted that political and consular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the State Commission on economic, trade and humanitarian cooperation, interparliamentary relations, as well as a comprehensive bilateral legal framework, ensure the sustainability of cooperation.
During the meetings, cooperation in economic and trade, energy, and transport-logistics sectors was discussed. It was emphasized that the economic potential of the two countries and their geographical proximity create favorable conditions for increasing trade and investment volumes.
Confidence was expressed that joint activities within the framework of the International North-South Transport Corridor, as well as new connectivity projects between Azerbaijan’s Eastern Zangezur economic region and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, will significantly expand transit opportunities in the region. Satisfaction was expressed with efforts to complete the construction of the Aghbend–Kalaleh road and bridge.
Touching upon humanitarian cooperation, it was noted that increasing flights on the Baku–Tehran–Baku and Baku–Tabriz–Baku routes, based on the agreement of the Presidents of the two countries, contributes to enhancing people-to-people contacts. Opportunities for strengthening cooperation in science, education, culture, youth, sports, healthcare, and tourism were reviewed.
An exchange of views was held on international and regional cooperation issues, and the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran within the framework of the United Nations, UNESCO, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), as well as the “3+3” and other regional platforms, based on mutual trust and support, was highly appreciated.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his counterpart about the latest developments in the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization process and highlighted the outcomes of the Washington Summit in this context.
The necessity of eliminating territorial claims against Azerbaijan from the Constitution of Armenia for the establishment of lasting peace in the region and the signing of a peace agreement was emphasized.
The Azerbaijani side also informed the counterpart about reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the liberated territories, the mine threat, and the return of former internally displaced persons.
Following the meetings, a joint press conference was held, during which the ministers made statements on the outcomes of the talks and answered questions from journalists.
