No:295/25, Press release on the meeting between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of UNESCAP Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana

On 3 July 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, within the framework of the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization held in the city of Khankendi.

 

During the meeting, the current state and prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCAP were discussed.

 

The Executive Secretary of UNESCAP expressed gratitude for the invitation to the summit and for Azerbaijan’s initiative to host the 82nd session of UNESCAP in 2026.

 

During the meeting, Azerbaijan’s growing role in the region and on international platforms was highly appreciated. The country’s contributions to the United Nations’ mission were noted with satisfaction, including its successful hosting of the summit marking the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in 2023, as well as its hosting and productive presidency of the United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP29 in 2024.

 

The sides reviewed opportunities for implementing joint projects in areas such as climate change and green energy, transport corridors, technologies, and digitalization.

 

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other global developments and challenges of mutual interest.
