No:290/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid

On 13 July 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Secretary General of the OSCE, Helga Schmid, who is on a visit to our country.

 

During the meeting, prospects of the Azerbaijan–OSCE cooperation agenda, as well as regional and international security issues and opportunities for regional cooperation, were discussed.

 

Against the backdrop of the current regional and international security situation, the importance of effectively utilizing existing opportunities within the OSCE to resolve regional issues on the basis of international law was emphasized. In this regard, it was noted that it is important for the organization to align its activities with present-day realities. It was also highlighted that our country is one of the most active members within the OSCE across a number of areas.

 

It was noted that Azerbaijan’s presidency of the COP29 could contribute to strengthening the climate action dimension within the existing cooperation agenda.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information on the regional situation in the post-conflict period, our country’s reconstruction, restoration and peace agenda, as well as existing threats and challenges. It was stated that the mine threat by Armenia continues to pose a risk to the return of our citizens to the liberated territories, as well as to large-scale reconstruction and restoration efforts carried out in this direction.

 

The latest situation in the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the progress achieved in the peace process, were noted. At the same time, it was emphasized that the continued existence of territorial claims against our country in the current Constitution of Armenia remains unacceptable. It was also underlined that actions posing a threat to the advancement of the peace agenda, particularly the increasing militarization of Armenia, remain a source of concern.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
