No:231/25, Press release on the meeting between Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev and the delegation of political directors of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Nordic and Baltic States (NB8)

On 4 June 2025, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev, within the framework of their visits to the region, met with a delegation consisting of political directors of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Nordic and Baltic States (Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania).
During the meeting, issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Nordic and Baltic States were discussed, and the importance of mutual visits and the mechanism of political consultations for maintaining a sustainable political dialogue was noted.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union, and an exchange of views was held on development prospects in various areas, including energy security, trade, transport, communications, digital development and cybersecurity.
Azerbaijan’s geostrategic position, its active role within multilateral platforms, as well as its practical efforts to establish peace in the wider region, and the contribution of all these factors to further enriching the cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the European Union, including the Nordic and Baltic States, were highlighted.
Azerbaijan’s hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), as well as its chairmanship of global climate action negotiations and the historic outcomes achieved, were highly appreciated.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev also provided information on the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the large-scale reconstruction and rebuilding works carried out in the liberated territories, the return of internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands, as well as efforts to combat mine threats in those areas.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
