No:179/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Thongsavanh Phomvihane

On 20 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Thongsavanh Phomvihane in the city of Bangkok within the framework of the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
During the meeting, the holding of the first political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Laos, as well as the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations were recalled with satisfaction.
Discussions were held on the current state of relations between the two countries, as well as prospects for expanding and developing cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian, transport, logistics and other fields. Within this framework, the importance of the Middle Corridor was emphasized.
The Lao Minister emphasized the importance of cooperation in the field of education and stated that within this framework the Azerbaijan-Laos Friendship Association consisting of Lao graduates who studied in Baku has been established.
The sides also exchanged views on issues arising from the situation in the Middle East.
At the meeting, prospects for cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which Laos is a member, were also discussed.
The Ministers also exchanged views on other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
