No:160/24, Press release on the participation and speech of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS

On 12 April 2024, within the framework of his working visit to the Republic of Belarus, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, participated and delivered a speech at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

During his speech, the role and importance of the CIS as a platform for constructive exchange of views and discussion of bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest were emphasized.

Active cooperation with CIS member states in the fields of economy, investments, trade, transport, and communications was highlighted.

In this regard, it was noted that the positive dynamics in trade between Azerbaijan and CIS member states in 2023 demonstrate the expansion of economic relations among our countries.

It was stated that Azerbaijan plays the role of a reliable partner in the field of transit, transport, and logistics between CIS member states and international markets along the East-West and North-South routes. In order to further improve these opportunities, reference was made to ongoing activities in Azerbaijan, including the modernization of railways, the expansion of the capacity of the Alat International Sea Trade Port, and the development of the Alat Free Economic Zone.

It was noted that cooperation and exchanges in the humanitarian field play an undeniable role in strengthening mutual trust, understanding, and good-neighborly relations among CIS member states.

It was emphasized that the CIS serves as an effective format for cooperation in education, science, culture, healthcare, tourism, sports, and youth both in bilateral and multilateral formats.

It was recalled that Azerbaijan’s second largest city, Ganja, will host the CIS Games in 2025, and information was provided on the active preparations underway in this regard. At the same time, it was noted that Azerbaijan has nominated the city of Lachin to obtain the status of CIS Cultural Capital in 2025.

It was stated that Azerbaijan supports the relevant action plan adopted in connection with the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism in the Second World War in 2025, and reference was made to the important contribution of Azerbaijan to that victory.

Information was provided on the preparations carried out in Azerbaijan within the framework of hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) this year. Confidence was expressed that hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan will also contribute to strengthening efforts aimed at the transition to green energy within the CIS and to the development of cooperation in this field.

Once again, the role of the CIS as a mechanism for cooperation among member states was emphasized, and hope was expressed that the work of the meeting would be productive.
