No:081/24, Press release on the meeting between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama Janaina Tewaney

On 1 March 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama, Janaina Tewaney, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral and multilateral relations between the two countries.
The ministers noted that despite Azerbaijan and Panama being located in geographically distant regions, there are opportunities for the development of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, transport, investment, alternative energy, culture, humanitarian affairs, and others.
In this regard, the importance of using the mechanism of political consultations between the two countries to realize the existing potential was emphasized.
The importance of further developing multilateral cooperation within the framework of international organizations was also underlined.
The other side was informed about the preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), to be hosted by Azerbaijan this year.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also spoke about the large-scale reconstruction and construction works carried out by Azerbaijan in the region in the post-conflict period, as well as the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Minister Janaina Tewaney congratulated Azerbaijan on its presidency of COP29 and expressed confidence that Azerbaijan will successfully fulfill this responsible task. It was noted that Panama has extensive experience in environmental protection and achieving net-zero carbon emissions and is ready to share this experience. It was emphasized that such contacts are useful in terms of discussing the prospects for the development of relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
