On 16 February 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Assistant Secretary of State of the United States for European and Eurasian Affairs, James O’Brien, within the framework of the Munich Security Conference, upon the request of the other side.
During the meeting, issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda between the two countries, as well as the prospects of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia on a bilateral basis, were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the Armenian provocation, which resulted in the injury of an Azerbaijani serviceman as a result of sniper fire without any provocative factor after 5 months of stability, is aimed at undermining the peace process.
At the same time, it was emphasized that the European Union mission in Armenia, contrary to its declared objectives such as contributing to regional stability and confidence-building between Azerbaijan and Armenia, is being widely misused as a propaganda tool against Azerbaijan, and that their “binocular diplomacy” is unacceptable.
With regard to the draft peace agreement, the ongoing claims against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan in the Constitution of Armenia, in legislative acts, and in international organizations and courts were once again recalled, and the importance of abandoning these claims was emphasized.
During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
