On 1 February 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Simon Stiell.
During the meeting, preparatory work and organizational issues related to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov brought to attention that Azerbaijan has taken practical steps, particularly in recent times, in the field of environmental protection and transition to renewable energy sources, and that Azerbaijan joined a number of global commitments at the COP28 Summit held last year.
Confidence was expressed that COP29 will be held at a high level both in terms of content and organization by Azerbaijan, and that the legacy of COP29 will contribute to international efforts in the field of combating climate change.
Executive Secretary Simon Stiell emphasized that it is commendable that the preparatory work carried out by Azerbaijan within the framework of hosting COP29 is being continued with high professionalism. The Executive Secretary, wishing success to Azerbaijan in the organization of COP29, stated that the Secretariat will closely contribute to the work carried out in this direction.
During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
