The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, jointly with the Central Election Commission, organized a seminar in a video-conference format on 22 January 2024 for the staff of the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan in order to ensure the voting rights of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan residing outside the country or on long-term foreign assignments in the extraordinary Presidential elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan scheduled for 7 February 2024.

Opening the event, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev, noting that a total of 49 polling stations have been established in 37 countries for holding the extraordinary Presidential elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan scheduled for 7 February 2024, provided information on the measures implemented in connection with the organization of elections in foreign countries, including the work carried out regarding the participation of international observers in the elections.

Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Rovzat Gasimov, providing information on the work being carried out jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the organization of elections outside the country, brought to the attention of the participants detailed information on the norms of the national legislation in connection with holding elections in foreign countries. R. Gasimov emphasized that intensive cooperation on a daily basis between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Central Election Commission continues in order to organize voting for citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan residing in foreign countries, and that emerging issues are resolved in a coordinated manner.

During the seminar, it was noted that, unlike previous elections, there is a significant increase in the number of countries where these elections will be held and in the number of polling stations established abroad, and that this is the highest indicator among the elections held to date.

Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Emil Safarov, delivering a speech, provided information on the work to be carried out in connection with the holding of the elections, as well as on the Action Plan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the organization of the elections and the Headquarters established under the Ministry.

At the end of the meeting, numerous questions of the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Azerbaijan in connection with the holding of the elections were answered.

The seminar was attended by relevant staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Central Election Commission, as well as authorized representatives of the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan in foreign countries (in a video-conference format), including the chairpersons of the constituency election commissions to which the polling stations established at diplomatic missions belong.
