On 19 January 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine, Riyad al-Maliki, within the framework of his working visit to Uganda in order to participate in the 19th Summit Meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
During the meeting, issues on the existing bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Palestine, as well as the situation in Gaza, were discussed.
The existence of a bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between the two countries in political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other fields, as well as the mutual support demonstrated within the framework of regional and international organizations, was noted with satisfaction.
It was stressed that Azerbaijan has always supported the “two-state solution” to the Palestinian issue based on the norms of international law, including the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, and has taken practical steps in this direction at the national level, including during its chairmanship of NAM, in the field of addressing the consequences of the conflict.
The assistance of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Palestine in the amount of 2 million US dollars through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) was noted with satisfaction.
During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
