No:502/24, Press release on the 49th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation and the handover of the Chairmanship to Azerbaijan for the first half of 2025

On 19 December 2024, the 49th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) was held in an online format.

 

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev participated and delivered a speech at the meeting on behalf of Azerbaijan.

 

In his speech, Yalchin Rafiyev emphasized that Azerbaijan, as a founding member of BSEC, has always contributed to strengthening cooperation based on mutual interests within the framework of the Organization, and that our country supports the necessity of transforming the Organization into a more result-oriented and practical cooperation platform.

 

The activities of Azerbaijan in the direction of increasing the transit potential of the region and creating secure transport routes through the Middle Corridor, the achievements regarding the increase of exports to Europe in the field of green energy and energy transmission through the Black Sea Submarine Cable project were discussed.

 

The important successes achieved by Azerbaijan in advancing the international climate agenda within the framework of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku on 11–23 November of the current year, particularly the progress related to increasing climate finance and agreements on carbon markets, were stressed.

 

It was noted that strengthening the activities of working groups within the framework of BSEC in 2025 and expanding sectoral cooperation among Member States will be one of Azerbaijan’s main priorities, and in this direction, Member States were invited to joint mutual activity.

 

At the end of the event, along with the adoption of the protocol of the meeting and a number of important decisions, the Chairmanship for the first half of 2025 was handed over to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
