On 4 December 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence of the Republic of Ireland, Thomas Byrne, on the sidelines of the 32nd Meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council held in Vienna.
Against the backdrop of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Ireland in 2026, the dynamics achieved to date in bilateral and multilateral cooperation were positively assessed, and the importance of further expanding this cooperation was emphasized.
The sides reviewed the existing potential for strengthening political dialogue and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, education, innovation, and high technologies, and discussed partnership opportunities in energy security and renewable energy.
The contribution of Azerbaijan to the energy security of the European Union and the international significance of major energy and transport-communication projects implemented on the initiative and with the active participation of Azerbaijan were highlighted.
The importance of continuing mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ireland within multilateral platforms was noted.
Regional and international agenda issues were reviewed, and views were exchanged on the situation in the South Caucasus region.
Detailed information was provided to the counterpart on the new realities that have emerged in the region following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, the country’s peace agenda in the post-conflict period, the normalization process with Armenia, as well as the mine threat in the region.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
