23 December 2024 14:02
On 23 December 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, participated and delivered a speech at the Ambassadors’ Conference of Serbia within the framework of his working visit to this country upon the invitation of the Republic of Serbia.
During his speech, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke in detail about the political, economic, energy and humanitarian aspects of the Azerbaijan–Serbia strategic partnership, common challenges uniting our countries and our common approach in combating these challenges.
It was noted that diplomatic relations between the two countries, which have a history of nearly 30 years, are today manifested in practice and in a multifaceted strategic partnership with the direct participation of the leadership of Azerbaijan and Serbia.
The important role of the Strategic Partnership Council between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Serbia, the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Serbia, as well as the political consultations mechanism in the development of cooperation was discussed.
Prospects for cooperation between our countries in the field of energy security were discussed extensively, and the importance of Azerbaijan’s role in the transformation of energy diversification in Europe, including the fact that cooperation with Serbia in the field of gas exports has yielded results this year, was noted with satisfaction. It was stressed that the field of green energy is one of the priorities of our country, and in this direction, initiatives such as the Black Sea submarine energy cable project and the strategic partnership in the field of “green energy” between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are important steps in connecting Europe and Central Asia through the Caspian and Black Sea basins.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the participants of the Conference in detail about the results of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in our country this year, and spoke about the importance in the global climate agenda of the successes achieved in the direction of agreeing on the new climate finance goal, concluding negotiations on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and bringing the Loss and Damage Fund to a ready state for operation.
As common features uniting Azerbaijan and Serbia, it was noted that along with the territorial size and population of our countries and the existing historical ties between our peoples, both countries, which gained independence in approximately the same historical period, were subjected to the selective application of international law, and our countries faced the problem of double standards.
It was noted that our countries understand the importance of not relying on external actors, not becoming a side in geopolitical confrontations, and giving preference to direct negotiations in order to avoid manipulation and interference. In this regard, the importance of Azerbaijan and Serbia being guided by the same values in their foreign policy, especially constant support for territorial integrity and sovereignty, and of continuing this, was noted.
Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric, the staff of the MFA, its ambassadors abroad, as well as Ana Brnabić, Speaker of the Parliament of Serbia, participated in the event.
