On 3 December 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, within the framework of his participation in the 28th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
At the meeting, issues standing on the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Iran, joint projects in the fields of economy, trade, energy security, transport-communications, as well as regional and international security issues were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated the Iranian side on the high-level organization of the 28th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Economic Cooperation Organization, as well as on its successful Chairmanship of the Organization.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted the importance of high- and highest-level dialogue and discussion of issues of mutual interest in the development of cooperation between the two countries based on historical neighborliness, friendship and cultural ties.
It was noted that a number of important initiatives have been implemented in the direction of developing Azerbaijan–Iran cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy and transport corridors, and the importance of the agreements reached and their implementation was noted. The importance of regional transport and infrastructure projects that will connect the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan with the East Zangezur economic region through the territory of Iran was stressed.
The importance of strengthening cooperation within the framework of regional and international multilateral platforms, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement and the Economic Cooperation Organization was emphasized.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
