No:473/25, Press release on the first political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand

On 11–12 December 2025, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, paid a visit to the Kingdom of Thailand.

 

During the visit, the first political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand were held in Bangkok.

 

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov, while the Thai delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijavat Isarabhakdi.

 

During the consultations, a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand was signed.

 

Subsequently, the current state and future prospects of relations between the two countries in political, economic, trade, cultural, and tourism fields were discussed.

 

The importance of further expanding cooperation between the two countries within multilateral platforms was emphasized.

 

The counterpart was informed about Azerbaijan’s peace agenda, measures taken to clear liberated territories from mines, as well as large-scale reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in those areas.

 

During the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, satisfaction was expressed with the current level of political relations, and it was noted that the opening of the Embassy and the first political consultations would contribute to strengthening cooperation in various fields.

 

At the same time, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov met with the President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha. The meeting highlighted the important role of interparliamentary relations in the development of bilateral ties and expressed satisfaction with effective cooperation within multilateral parliamentary platforms.

 

Within the framework of the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov gave interviews to Thailand’s leading TNN television channel, as well as to the parliamentary television channel. He also participated in a ceremony organized by the Embassy on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

 

In addition, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov delivered a lecture on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities at the King Prajadhipok’s Institute under the Thai Parliament and answered questions from participants.
