No:444/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Philemon Yang, President of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly

On 13 November 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Philemon Yang, President of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, within the framework of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit of the 29th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
At the meeting, Azerbaijan–UN cooperation, as well as issues arising from our country’s COP29 Presidency, were discussed.
It was noted that the impact of the consequences of climate change on our region and our world is also closely observed by our country, and in this regard, the approach of transition to green energy is applied by our side at the national level, as well as multilateralism is promoted in combating existing challenges at the regional and global levels.
A number of regional and international projects and initiatives implemented by our country were discussed, and it was stressed that today, within the framework of COP29, the “Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the field of green energy development and transmission between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan” was signed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, speaking in detail about our COP29 Presidency and the negotiation process conducted, stated that as a result of active activities carried out by our side in order to advance the topic of climate finance, important progress has been achieved in the transition to a new financial structure with the participation of international financial organizations.
President Philemon Yang congratulated our country on the occasion of the COP29 Presidency and thanked for the high-level organization of the session. It was noted that the United Nations attaches special importance to the direction of combating climate change and is always ready to support efforts in this field.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
