On 13 November 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, participated and delivered a speech at the high-level dialogue on “Advancing the Mountain Agenda, Common Trend and Climate Change” organized within the framework of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit of the 29th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

During his speech at the event, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the role of mountains as home to many people on Earth, as well as the importance of the natural resources they provide, including water resources, and their significance in terms of ecosystem and biodiversity.
It was stressed that the melting of glaciers in mountains and the resulting disasters such as floods and landslides make it necessary to take systematic measures in this direction.
The importance of networks such as the “Mountain Partnership”, a United Nations voluntary alliance, in terms of raising awareness on relevant challenges and mobilizing resources was noted. At the same time, the importance of carrying out more work to protect people living in mountains and the mountain ecosystem, and strengthening cooperation towards solutions, was emphasized.
It was noted that our COP29 Presidency, among other things, underlines the need for specific and targeted climate plans for local communities in relation to climate problems related to the mountain ecosystem.
