On 6 November 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, participated and delivered a speech at the 11th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) within the framework of his working visit to the city of Bishkek, capital of the Kyrgyz Republic.
In the speech, prospects for the development of cooperation within the framework of the OTS in the fields of economic-trade, transport and communications, energy security, digital technologies, culture and other areas, our country’s initiatives and vision in the direction of strengthening the Organization, as well as Azerbaijan’s Presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), were discussed in detail.
Based on the strategic vision of Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, for cooperation within the framework of the Turkic world, which we consider our family, the intention of our country to continue its efforts and initiatives in the direction of strengthening the Organization was underlined, and the importance of increasing the staff and budget of the OTS Secretariat in this direction was noted.
It was noted with satisfaction that at a time when trust in international bodies and institutions is decreasing, over the 15 years since the establishment of the OTS, founded by the historic Nakhchivan Agreement, the Organization has become a reliable regional organization in the region and the world.
Confidence was expressed that the Summit to be held on the theme “Strengthening the Turkic World: Economic Integration, Sustainable Development, Digital Future and Security for All”, as well as all documents to be adopted within this framework, including the Declaration and the Charter of the Turkic World, will have a positive impact on the development dynamics of the Organization.
Against the background of existing regional and international challenges, the importance of strengthening economic potential, further increasing trade turnover, and diversifying transport corridors in the direction of achieving common prosperity and common goals in our region was noted.
In this direction, the importance of the Garabagh Declaration adopted within the framework of the informal summit convened in Shusha on 6 July, in terms of emphasizing the realization of the potential of Turkic states and the implementation of important joint initiatives and projects, was stressed.
The activities of TURKPA, TURKSOY, the Turkic Academy, the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and the Turkic Investment Fund operating in connection with the OTS, including the work of the representative office of the OTS in Hungary, were appreciated.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, speaking about the large-scale restoration and construction works carried out in the liberated territories, stated that our country’s reconstruction activities create broad opportunities for joint cooperation, including the development of the Middle Corridor.
During the speech, our country’s COP29 Presidency and the preparatory works carried out were also discussed in detail, and it was highlighted that a number of joint initiatives will be implemented within the framework of this prestigious event to be held for the first time in the Turkic world.
At the end of the meeting, the “Decision on the approval of the Regulations on Permanent Representatives to the Organization of Turkic States” and the “Decision on awarding the Alisher Navoi International Prize for contribution to the unity of the Turkic world to the Organization of Turkic States” were signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
