No:396/25, Press release on the participation of the delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement

On 15–16 October 2025, the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was held in the city of Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
Within the framework of the Kampala Ministerial Meeting, an exchange of views was held on strengthening international peace and security, promoting sustainable development, enhancing the institutional capacity of the Movement, as well as the situation in the Middle East and other current agenda issues.
At the event, the Republic of Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Samir Sharifov.
Samir Sharifov, speaking at the opening segment of the meeting, touched upon the initiatives implemented by our country during its chairmanship, including contributions to the institutional development of the Movement, and emphasized the importance of strengthening solidarity and unity among member states. The Deputy Minister informed the participants about the latest progress in the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization agenda and the large-scale reconstruction and rebuilding works carried out in our liberated territories.
As the former Chair of the Movement and a current member of the Troika, our country was also represented at the meeting of the NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine. Deputy Minister S.Sharifov highlighted the participation of the Head of State of Azerbaijan in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit on 13 October 2025, drew attention to the fact that our country is one of the few Movement members invited to the summit and the significance of this, the necessity of the prompt establishment of lasting peace and security in the Middle East based on the two-state principle, as well as our country’s humanitarian initiatives in the region.
Within the framework of the meeting, a number of bilateral meetings were held, and agreements on mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uganda, and for holders of diplomatic passports between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Republic of Somalia were signed.
The signing of the mentioned documents serves to expand bilateral relations of the Republic of Azerbaijan with African countries, facilitate mutual visits, and further develop diplomatic relations.
