No:383/24, Press release on the participation and speech of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at the informal ministerial dialogue dedicated to the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance

On 27 September 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, participated and delivered a speech at the informal ministerial dialogue dedicated to the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance, organized within the framework of our Presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

 

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and COP29 President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Simon Stiell also participated and delivered speeches at the ministerial dialogue. At the same time, high-level representatives of various countries, as well as members of the groups of negotiators on COP29, attended the event.

 

In his speech, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke in detail about Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency activities, priorities and initiatives, as well as the negotiation process conducted in the direction of agreeing on the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance.

 

It was noted that in the negotiation process conducted within the framework of our COP29 Presidency, our country works closely with all stakeholders of the process within the framework of inclusiveness and cooperation. Taking into account the importance of attracting financial resources to combating climate change, the importance of mobilizing all resources with the participation of the private sector, as well as multilateral financial institutions, and supporting the efforts of the Global South in combating climate change was emphasized.

 

Noting that agreeing on the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance is one of the most important elements of the process, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov called on all sides participating in the negotiations in this direction to demonstrate a constructive position and mobilize efforts towards combating the threat of climate change facing humanity.

 

It was stated that our COP29 Presidency, while supporting the goals defined by 14 main initiatives and declarations, is focused on ensuring the relevant tools for achieving them as well. It was emphasized that our approach to supporting climate-based development particularly takes into account the most vulnerable groups.

 

The ministerial dialogue continued with discussions on the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance.
