No:370/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

On 25 September 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Volker Türk, United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights, within the framework of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
At the meeting, issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UN institutions in a number of areas, including the protection of human rights, as well as the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan has always been a supporter of an effective UN system, including its commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, multilateralism and broad cooperation with UN bodies.
The existence of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN in various fields, including in the field of protection of human rights, was noted with satisfaction.
It was noted that the relevant activities of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the protection of human rights, as well as its measures towards increasing the capacity of states in this field, are important.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan, which is fully committed to the protection of the fundamental principles of human rights, regularly contributes to strengthening the international human rights system and promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue, and continuously achieves significant progress in this field.
The other side was provided with detailed information about the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, the large-scale restoration and construction works carried out by the Republic of Azerbaijan towards the restoration of the fundamental rights of its citizens after the full ensuring of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, measures to combat the mine threat, as well as the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process.
It was recalled that our country will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) this year, and information was provided about the works carried out within the framework of the event.
At the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
