No:360/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Ian Borg, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Malta

On 24 September 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Ian Borg, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Malta, within the framework of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the current level of friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation relations based on mutual respect between Azerbaijan and Malta, and the importance of intensifying political dialogue, increasing the dynamics of high-level visits, as well as strengthening contacts within the framework of international organizations in order to further develop these relations was stressed.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was conducted on issues standing on the OSCE agenda and regional developments. Issues regarding the main priorities of the Azerbaijan-OSCE cooperation agenda were touched upon.
Discussions were also conducted on possible cooperation with Malta’s OSCE Chairpersonship within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which Azerbaijan will host this year.
It was stated that the COP29 Presidency of Azerbaijan, while supporting the goals defined by 14 main initiatives and declarations, is focused on ensuring the relevant tools for achieving them as well.
The other side was informed in detail about the current situation and realities in our region in the post-conflict period and the course of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It was emphasized that the continuing territorial claims against Azerbaijan in Armenian legislation are the main factor posing a threat to the process of building sustainable peace in the region.
At the same time, the unacceptability of Armenia’s efforts to keep institutions that have lost their relevance, such as the Minsk Group, on the agenda was highlighted.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
