In the speech, the vision and initiatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the direction of international peace and security, ensuring sustainable development, as well as promoting joint action on combating climate change and addressing global challenges were discussed in detail.

It was stressed that the “Summit of the Future” is a chance to demonstrate the importance of multilateralism in addressing existing global challenges.

Speaking about the importance of supporting existing international commitments in the direction of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with decisive steps, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan continues to advance the sustainable development agenda by prioritizing 17 goals, 88 targets and 119 indicators at the national level.

It was stated that 4 Voluntary National Reviews for the period up to 2030 have been presented by Azerbaijan, as well as that, according to the 2024 Sustainable Development Report, Azerbaijan is among the leading countries in this field.

Noting that new opportunities have emerged in the direction of the implementation of the SDGs with the liberation of the territories of Azerbaijan from occupation, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the large-scale restoration and construction works currently being carried out encompass all aspects of the implementation of the SDGs.

It was emphasized that Azerbaijan widely promotes activities to combat the mine threat, which poses a threat to the life and health of citizens, as well as to the aforementioned reconstruction activities, as the 18th National SDG.

It was noted that Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan, as a country that for many years experienced the bitter consequences of the violation of the norms of international law and the non-implementation of the United Nations Charter and resolutions, has always emphasized the unconditional application of the aforementioned mechanisms and tools and the inadmissibility of double standards in this direction.

It was recalled that the Republic of Azerbaijan restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity enshrined in the United Nations Charter, put an end to illegal occupation and the use of force, as well as was the initiator of the normalization process with Armenia based on the mutual recognition of each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The importance of the necessary political will and responsibility in the direction of removing the remaining obstacles for the continuation of the progress achieved on the peace process was noted.

Stating that our country will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in November of the current year, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan, by bringing together developed and developing countries in the fight against the threat of climate change, is acting in the direction of strengthening cooperation on climate issues on the basis of inclusiveness.

It was stated that the COP29 Presidency of Azerbaijan, prioritizing the financial side of this fight, is based on promoting the directions of enhancing ambitions and increasing action.

It was stated that, alongside the climate agenda of COP29, Azerbaijan has also put forward the “COP Truce Appeal” initiative in the direction of COP29 contributing to global peace, and that within the framework of this appeal, unity and respect are promoted in the direction of achieving a truce during the COP29 month.
