No:345/24, Press release on the next round of political consultations between Azerbaijan and Lithuania

On 20 September 2024, the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Lithuania was held in the city of Vilnius.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Fariz Rzayev, while the Lithuanian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Survila.
During the meeting, the current state and prospects for the development of relations between the two countries in political, economic, and humanitarian fields were discussed.
In this regard, the importance of continuing high-level reciprocal visits was emphasized.
The expansion of the legal and contractual framework, as well as the intensification of inter-parliamentary cooperation, was also highlighted.
The existence of broad opportunities for cooperation in mutual trade and investment, transport, alternative energy, high technologies, agriculture, and agro-industry was underlined, and the importance of the Azerbaijan–Lithuania intergovernmental commission in developing economic relations was noted.
It was also emphasized that strengthening exchanges in the humanitarian sector, including education, culture, and tourism, as well as people-to-people contacts, is beneficial for expanding relations.
Issues of mutual interest on the international agenda, including the continuation of cooperation within multilateral formats, were also at the center of discussions. The other side was informed about the preparations and work carried out for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in Azerbaijan in November 2024.
The other side was also informed about the situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the constructive steps taken by Azerbaijan towards establishing lasting peace, as well as the mine problem in the liberated territories and the large-scale reconstruction and restoration works carried out there.
During the visit, Fariz Rzayev also met with other Lithuanian officials and participated in roundtable discussions with representatives of think tanks and research centers.
