No:335/24, Press release on the participation and address of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev at an event within the framework of the 31st OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum in Prague

Within the framework of the 31st Economic and Environmental Forum of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), a side event titled “COP29: promoting solidarity and unity in addressing climate change challenges through enhancing ambition and fostering action” was organized in Prague by the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the OSCE.

 

At the event, moderated by the Chair of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Committee and Permanent Representative of Austria to the OSCE, Florian Raunig, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chief Negotiator for COP29, Yalchin Rafiyev, participated and delivered remarks.

 

Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev spoke about the global adverse impacts of climate change and noted that our country will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in November this year. He provided information on the current status of the negotiation process within the framework of COP29 preparations, the 14 initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan and efforts to promote them, as well as Azerbaijan’s energy transition and climate policy.

 

Highlighting that Azerbaijan promotes inclusivity and cooperation in addressing climate change, he noted that the COP29 Presidency maintains close contacts with many partners.

 

An OSCE representative, B. Djusupov, referred to the fact that climate change remains at the center of the OSCE’s attention and that there are a number of commitments in this direction. He provided information on the activities carried out by the Organization in this field and spoke about the OSCE’s plans to participate in COP29.

 

Within the framework of the event, the views of OSCE participating States were heard and their questions were answered. Participants emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation among countries, building trust, and strengthening global efforts in combating climate change, as well as the contribution of Azerbaijan’s Presidency to these efforts, and wished our country success in this activity.

 

It should be noted that the Economic and Environmental Forum is the largest annual event of the OSCE’s economic dimension.

 

The Forum serves as a platform for reviewing the commitments of participating States in the economic and environmental fields and for discussing activities aimed at their implementation.
