No:275/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov with the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze

On 27 June 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, within the framework of his official visit to Georgia.

 

During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the current level of relations of historical friendship, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership between the two countries, and in this regard, the importance of an active political dialogue based on mutual respect and trust, formed at the highest level, was emphasized.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was held on political, economic, energy, transport, and a number of other issues of strategic importance.

 

It was emphasized that the implementation of large-scale oil and gas pipelines and transport and communication projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which are examples of successful cooperation between the two countries, contributes to regional development, peace, and stability. In addition, issues related to ongoing work and the implementation of joint projects within the framework of the “Green Energy” corridor were reviewed.

 

The importance of the work carried out on the development of the East-West International Transport Corridor in terms of increasing the efficiency, competitiveness, and transit potential of the transport corridor passing through the territories of both countries was noted.

 

In this regard, satisfaction was expressed with the full operation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway following the increase in its transit capacity, as well as the growth in cargo transportation.

 

The Minister provided information on the work carried out in connection with Azerbaijan’s presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries within the framework of COP29 were reviewed.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side about the situation in the region in the post-conflict period and the process of normalization of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations.

 

The sides exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
