On 22 June 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Ahmed Attaf, within the framework of his participation in the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
During the meeting, current issues on the Azerbaijan-Algeria bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda, as well as the situation arising from the Israel-Iran confrontation, were discussed.
Satisfaction was expressed with the current level of Azerbaijan-Algeria cooperation relations based on mutual respect and shared values, and there was a common understanding that mutual visits at high and top levels contribute to the development of interstate relations.
The role of the political consultations held in April this year between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries in advancing Azerbaijan-Algeria cooperation in a comprehensive and systematic manner was highlighted.
It was noted with satisfaction that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Algeria within international organizations, including the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement, is developing.
Touching upon the economic dimension of cooperation, opportunities for cooperation in trade and investment, oil and gas, and renewable energy were reviewed. The importance of increasing exchanges in the fields of education and culture in bringing our peoples closer to each other was emphasized. It was underlined that the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation being established between the two countries will serve as an important mechanism.
Serious concern was expressed over the security challenges in the region resulting from the Israel-Iran confrontation, and the importance of resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomatic means was emphasized.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
