No:263/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov with the European Union Commissioner for Climate Action, Wopke Hoekstra

On 20 June 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the European Union (EU) Commissioner for Climate Action, Wopke Hoekstra, who is on a visit to our country.

 

During the meeting, issues of cooperation in the implementation of our country’s initiatives in combating climate change, as well as the preparatory work for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), were discussed.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the other side with detailed information on the main directions and priorities within the framework of our country’s COP29 presidency, the work carried out at the national and international levels, as well as preparatory activities for COP29. It was brought to attention that Azerbaijan works closely with all sides, including previous COP presidencies, as well as international financial institutions and private sector representatives, in order to ensure the continuity and inclusiveness of the process.

 

During the meeting, the other side was also informed about our country’s priorities in the field of “green energy”.

 

Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra brought to attention the importance of the work carried out by Azerbaijan within the framework of the COP29 presidency, as well as that the EU is one of the parties interested in possible support and cooperation in this direction.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
