On 21 June 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, participated and delivered a speech at the 51st session of the Council of Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in the city of Istanbul within the framework of his working visit to the Republic of Türkiye.
In his address, the political, economic, humanitarian, environmental, and security challenges emerging against the background of increasing geopolitical tensions across the OIC geography, cooperation in addressing these challenges, as well as the regional situation in the post-conflict period were highlighted.
During his speech, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated the brotherly Republic of Türkiye on its upcoming OIC Chairmanship and stated that our country is ready to support Türkiye in this process.
It was noted that Azerbaijan considers its upcoming OIC Chairmanship in 2026 as a significant historical opportunity to contribute to the solidarity and development of the Islamic world.
The growing trends of Islamophobia worldwide were noted as a matter of concern, and it was emphasized that our country strongly condemns all forms and manifestations of this threat and supports initiatives undertaken within the OIC to combat Islamophobia.
The existing humanitarian situation in Gaza was addressed, and the importance of taking urgent measures in this regard was emphasized.
It was stated that the expansion of tensions in the Middle East, including the military operations carried out against the Islamic Republic of Iran, is a cause for concern, and our country calls for the resumption of the diplomatic process based on the norms and principles of international law.
It was noted that our country fully supports the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, as well as the OIC, and the importance of the ceasefire agreement reached on 10 May 2025 was emphasized.
The humanitarian situation in Syria was also addressed, and the importance of international support for reconstruction and reintegration efforts in the region was highlighted.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also elaborated on post-conflict regional reconstruction, development, and peace efforts, as well as the challenges threatening the normalization process. It was brought to attention that territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the Constitution of Armenia and the continued existence of institutions such as the OSCE Minsk Group, which is a remnant of the former conflict, hinder the signing of a peace agreement.
Information was provided on Armenia’s failure to fulfill its obligation to ensure unimpeded communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.
During the speech, it was also recalled that the gross violation of the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from the territories of present-day Armenia, as well as the denial of the rights of the Western Azerbaijan Community by this country, hinder sustainable peace and confidence-building.
