No:226/24, Press release on the telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Bagheri Kani

On 21 May 2024, a telephone conversation was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Bagheri Kani.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that we are deeply saddened by the tragic death of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and other officials as a result of the helicopter crash, and conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased, as well as to the friendly and brotherly people of Iran.
The Minister emphasized that sincere and professional contacts had been established with the late Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and that the meetings held contributed to the development of relations between the two countries and to the resolution of issues where differences of opinion exist.
During the telephone conversation, it was noted that the meeting that took place between the leaders of the two countries at the border is of historical significance, and that it is important to continue joint efforts for the implementation of strategic projects and plans in the fields of transport, economy and energy. It was stated that measures are being taken to resume the activities of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran.
The sides stated that the implementation of the agreements reached during the meeting convened between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran serves to further deepen relations between the two countries.
The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Ali Bagheri Kani, stated that the visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to the embassy to offer condolences on the tragic death of President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other accompanying persons in the helicopter crash, the sending of a letter of condolence, as well as the condolence messages sent by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and other officials, are a sign of high respect, and expressed his deep gratitude for this.
During the phone call, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
