No:218/24, Press release on the repatriation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan from Syria

As a result of phased and coordinated measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on 14 May 2024, the repatriation to our country of 8 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including 5 children and 3 women, who had gone to the conflict zones of the Syrian Arab Republic, was carried out.
First, the location, identity and citizenship affiliation of the repatriates to the Republic of Azerbaijan were determined.
Subsequently, representatives of the relevant state bodies responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria were dispatched to the Republic of Türkiye, and the provision of initial medical and psychological examination of the repatriates was ensured.
Through the relevant coordination work carried out by the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Istanbul of the Republic of Türkiye, our citizens were provided with return certificates to the Republic of Azerbaijan and were brought to the country.
It is envisaged that relevant measures will be implemented for the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the repatriates into society.
The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to take the necessary measures for the repatriation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who have become victims of armed conflict in the territories of foreign countries.
