No:216/25, Press release on the event held in Dushanbe under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan in CICA

On 29 May 2025, an event titled “Water Security and Climate Resilience: Addressing Environmental Challenges in CICA Member States” was held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, organized by the Azerbaijani Chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), as well as the CICA Secretariat.
The event was held within the framework of the High-Level International Conference on Glacier Preservation.
At the event, statements were delivered on behalf of Azerbaijan’s CICA Chairmanship and COP29 Presidency, highlighting our country’s activities within CICA, including the importance attached to the environmental dimension, and providing information on the successful outcomes of COP29, as well as its contributions to water security and cooperation at the global and regional levels.
Participants of the event discussed the impact of the accelerated melting of glaciers due to climate change on water security and emphasized the importance of climate adaptation and long-term resilience. They highlighted the importance of cooperation and joint action in the effective management of water resources.
Presentations were also delivered on the challenges related to water security arising from climate change in the region where CICA member states are located, possible solutions, as well as the impact of water management on food security.
