No:200/24, Press release on political and consular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tajikistan

On 2 May 2024, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tajikistan were held in the city of Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samir Sharifov, while the Tajik delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sodik Imomi.

During the political consultations, discussions were conducted on cooperation between the two countries in political, economic and trade, cultural and humanitarian fields, as well as within bilateral, international and regional organizations, regional security, and other issues of mutual interest.

It was emphasized that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), hosted by the Republic of Azerbaijan, creates favorable opportunities for new areas of cooperation, and the Tajik side was informed about the organization of this prestigious event.

In addition, an exchange of views took place on the legal and contractual framework between the two countries and ongoing projects.

During the meeting, the “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Consular Field between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan” was signed.

At the same time, on 2 May 2024, consular consultations were also held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tajikistan.

The Azerbaijani delegation at the consular consultations was led by the Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emil Safarov, while the Tajik delegation was headed by the Chief of the Main Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Safarzoda Bahodur.

During the consular consultations, discussions were held on the current state and prospects of cooperation in the consular field between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan as an important partner country, including the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens of both countries, as well as the development of cooperation in the fields of migration and justice. At the end of the negotiations, the protocol of the meeting was signed by the delegations of both countries.
