On 1 April 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Simon Mordue, Deputy Secretary General for Economic and Global Issues of the European External Action Service, and Magdalena Grono, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia.

During the meeting, the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan–European Union (EU) cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest, were discussed.

Issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in various areas, including economic, trade, energy security, green energy, humanitarian and other fields, were reviewed. In particular, it was brought to attention that the large-scale projects implemented at the initiative of our country in the energy sector play an important role in Europe’s energy supply and security, and the importance of continuing cooperation in alternative energy alongside traditional energy sources was emphasized.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided detailed information on the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, noting that extensive reconstruction and construction works, as well as humanitarian demining activities, are currently being carried out by our country in the territories liberated from occupation.

Cooperation with the European Union in the field of demining and determining the fate of missing persons was also addressed.

Despite the progress achieved in the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization and peace process, it was noted that the continuation of territorial claims against our country in the Constitution of Armenia, as well as the rapid militarization of that country, pose a threat to the advancement of the peace agenda.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
