On 13 March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Anacláudia Rossbach, who is visiting our country to participate in the Global Baku Forum.
During the meeting, issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat, sustainable urban development, management of urbanization processes, as well as prospects for partnership in the field of sustainable development of cities were discussed. The sides exchanged views on the preparatory work for the upcoming World Urban Forum (WUF-13) and plans within this framework.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works carried out in the territories liberated from occupation in the post-conflict period, the reconstruction of destroyed cities and villages, and the creation of settlements based on modern urban planning principles are significant examples of the work carried out by our country in the field of urbanization.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on the current security situation in the Middle East and the increasing tensions in the region.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side about the current situation in our region and the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization and peace process, and spoke about Azerbaijan’s position and initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable peace and stability in the post-conflict period in the region.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
