No:089/24, Press release on the first consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq

On 1 March 2024, the first consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq were held in Baku.

 

During the consultations, the Azerbaijani delegation was led by the Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Emil Safarov, while the Iraqi delegation was led by the Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Ahmed Ali Ameen Al-Sadi.

 

During the consular consultations, the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation in the consular field with the Republic of Iraq, a partner country for Azerbaijan, were reviewed, including the signing of new bilateral documents in this area and opportunities for the digitalization of consular services.

 

Within the framework of the consultations, discussions were held on ensuring the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens of both countries, strengthening efforts to provide necessary consular assistance to convicted persons, as well as expanding cooperation in the transfer of sentenced persons.

 

The sides exchanged experience on recent innovations implemented in the consular field and also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the areas of migration, justice, and other fields.

 

The sides reached an agreement to hold the next round of consular consultations in 2024 in Baghdad.
