No:039/26, Press release on consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia

On 16 February 2026, the next round of consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia was held in the city of Baku.

 

The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, while the Georgian delegation was led by Giorgi Tabatadze, Director of the Directorate for International Law, Consular and Diaspora Issues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

 

The meeting was attended by Faig Guliyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia, Zurab Pataradze, and Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as officials from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Justice and the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

During the consular consultations, an exchange of views was held on the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation in the consular field between the two countries, including the signing of bilateral documents in this area.

 

The sides discussed issues related to the protection of the rights and freedoms of the citizens of the two countries and the provision of consular assistance to them, and agreed to intensify cooperation in this regard.

 

The consultations also included an exchange of views on cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in the fields of justice, migration, education, social protection and other important areas.

 

At the end of the negotiations, the protocol of the meeting was signed by the heads of the delegations of the two countries.
