No:029/26, Press release on the summoning of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

06 February 2026 18:14

On 6 February 2026, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mikhail Yevdokimov, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting with the Russian Ambassador, a strong protest was expressed regarding the statement made on 5 February by Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on the Commonwealth of Independent States, Eurasian Integration, and Relations with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, and member of the ruling “United Russia” Party, concerning the conviction of citizens of the Republic of Armenia in Azerbaijan and a relevant diplomatic note was presented to the Russian side.

It was firmly condemned that K. Zatulin has long acted against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, openly supported separatism, and attempted to distort court decisions regarding citizens of the Republic of Armenia convicted of crimes against peace and humanity, as well as war crimes, committed during Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan, using unacceptable statements.

During the meeting, the Russian side was called upon to take the necessary measures to put an end to the destructive activities of individuals like Zatulin, who seek to undermine peace and stability in the region and harm relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.
