No:023/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar

On 19 January 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, within the framework of the Summit Meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Kampala, the Republic of Uganda.

During the meeting, issues on the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and India, as well as the regional situation, were discussed.

The sides noted that there are prospects for bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including economic, trade, tourism, culture, education, transport and other areas, and emphasized the importance of political consultations and the bilateral economic commission mechanism for discussing opportunities to utilize the existing potential in this direction.

The importance of increasing political contacts over the past several years in terms of their positive contribution to relations was emphasized.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed his counterpart about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, existing challenges and opportunities. It was emphasized that support by the international community for peacebuilding measures and discouraging Armenia from continuing its non-constructive position are more important than ever.

The ministers exchanged views on issues that create difficulties in relations between the two countries, conveyed their respective positions, and emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue towards the resolution of these issues.
