On 19 January 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, Robert Floyd, within the framework of the Summit Meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

During the meeting, prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the aforementioned Organization, as well as possible issues of cooperation within the framework of international organizations, were discussed.

During the meeting, the successful chairmanship of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Non-Aligned Movement was appreciated, congratulations were conveyed, and the decision on the presidency and hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was welcomed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan attaches importance to cooperation with the Organization in the field of non-proliferation control of nuclear weapons, which pose a major threat to humanity, and that we support the Organization’s vision of a nuclear-weapon-free world.

It was stated that the contribution of the NAM member states to regional and international efforts in the field of limitation of nuclear tests is important.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pointed out that during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, many member states within the Movement have emphasized that for a long time they have been victims of nuclear tests conducted within the framework of the colonial policy of certain states, particularly France, and that France has avoided addressing the consequences of its nuclear tests.

During the meeting, other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
