No:019/24, Press release on the meeting of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov with the First Deputy Secretary General of the CIS, Leonid Anfimov

On 18 January, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, met with the delegation led by the First Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Leonid Anfimov, who is on a visit to our country to observe the extraordinary Presidential elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan to be held on 7 February 2024.
Deputy Minister E. Mammadov emphasized that the holding of the upcoming elections after the restoration of sovereignty over all territories of Azerbaijan is an important historical and political event, and provided detailed information on the measures taken to ensure that the elections are held in a free, fair and transparent manner, including the participation of international observers in this process, as well as the steps taken to ensure the electoral rights of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan residing abroad or temporarily staying in foreign countries.
The First Deputy Secretary General of the CIS, Leonid Anfimov, noted that the upcoming Presidential elections are of great importance for the people of Azerbaijan, provided information on the activities of the CIS observation mission related to the elections, and brought to attention that the current process is the 11th election observed by the organization in Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
