No:520/24, Press release on the visit of Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev to Syria

The delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev is on a visit to Syria.

 

Within the framework of the visit, on 29 December, a meeting was held between Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev and Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the transitional government of Syria.

 

During the meeting, the Azerbaijani side conveyed the congratulations of the leadership of Azerbaijan on the beginning of a new stage for the stability of the Syrian state and the welfare of the people, as well as on the coming to power of the representatives of the people.

 

It was stated that Azerbaijan stands by Syria together with the Republic of Türkiye at this newly emerged important stage.

 

It was declared that possible support will be provided by our country in the process of Syria’s restoration.

 

Along with humanitarian assistance activities, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan will also provide necessary support to the new government on the diplomatic plane.

 

The Deputy Minister also underlined the fact that the experience of Azerbaijan, which liberated its lands from occupation, in the field of restoration and construction may be used in the process of Syria’s restoration.

 

Minister Al-Shaibani, expressing that Azerbaijan’s liberation of its lands from occupation is an important event for the establishment of peace in the region and the world, congratulated the people and leadership of Azerbaijan on this occasion. He called Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a determined leader and compared the coming to power of the people in Syria with Azerbaijan’s historic victory. The Minister stated that the main goal of the new Syrian government is to live in peace with neighboring states and to achieve national unity within the country through dialogue with all sides.

 

Minister Al-Shaibani, underlining the fact that the old regime left Syria destroyed and isolated by the world community as a legacy, emphasized that socio-economic development, national and political unity inside the country, and increasing Syria’s prestige on the international plane are priorities.

 

The sides noted that they are of the same opinion on opening a new page aimed at cooperation and friendship in relations between Azerbaijan and Syria, which have not existed for a long time. In this regard, it was conveyed to the other side that the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Damascus is planned to resume its activities after 12 years in the shortest possible time.

 

At the end, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria was invited to visit our country in order to strengthen the newly established relations. Minister Al-Shaibani accepted the invitation with satisfaction and stated that they would be pleased to see Azerbaijani representatives in Syria on a regular basis.
