No:467/25, Press release on consular consultations between Azerbaijan and Iraq

On 8 December 2025, the second round of consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq was held in Baghdad.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by the Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Emil Safarov, while the Iraqi delegation was headed by the Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Falah Abdul Hassan Al-Saadi.
During the consultations, discussions were held on the current state and prospects for the development of consular cooperation with the Republic of Iraq, a partner country for Azerbaijan, including issues related to the simplification of the visa regime for citizens of the two countries.
Within the framework of the consultations, an exchange of views took place on ensuring the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens of both countries, the provision of necessary consular assistance, and the improvement of the relevant bilateral legal framework in this regard.
The sides also exchanged experience on recent developments in the consular sphere and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the fields of migration, internal affairs, justice, as well as legal assistance and other areas.
