No:464/24, Press release on the meeting of Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov with Masaki Ishikawa, Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for Central Asia, the Caucasus and GUAM

On 29 November 2024, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov met with Masaki Ishikawa, Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for Central Asia, the Caucasus and GUAM, who is on a visit to our country.

 

The sides discussed various aspects of cooperation on the agenda of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Japan.

 

During the discussions, issues of expanding economic and trade relations, particularly relations in the fields of industry and energy, as well as cooperation in the humanitarian field, were reviewed. In this regard, the role of the State Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Japan and the Japan–Azerbaijan Economic Committee was emphasized, and the importance of holding the next joint meeting next year was noted. It was stated that, noting the important role of Azerbaijan–Japan interparliamentary cooperation in the development of bilateral relations, intensifying mutual visits and contacts would be useful.

 

During the meeting, detailed information was provided to the other side about the post-conflict period, the steps taken by Azerbaijan towards establishing lasting peace, the mine problem in the liberated territories, including restoration and reconstruction projects implemented in the Garabagh and East Zangezur economic regions.

 

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov informed his counterpart about the successful organization of COP29 and the results achieved, and expressed gratitude to the Japanese side for its support for the COP29 Presidency.

 

The other side congratulated Azerbaijan on the COP29 Presidency, as well as on the high-level and professional organization of the event and our country’s leadership efforts in the direction of strengthening efforts to combat climate change. The importance of important agreements achieved within the framework of COP29, particularly the determination of the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance, important decisions adopted regarding the Paris Agreement, the annual climate finance commitment of financial institutions, as well as the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage, was emphasized, and the activities of our country in this direction were appreciated.
