No:451/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Alexandre Zouev, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Rule of Law and Security Institutions

On 15 November 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Alexandre Zouev, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Rule of Law and Security Institutions, within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
At the meeting, issues arising from the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the United Nations, as well as our COP29 Presidency, were discussed.
The importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations in the successful organization of COP29 was noted.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, noting that one of our main priorities is that COP29 be useful in terms of content, along with its organizational part, provided detailed information on the course of the session and the progress achieved in the negotiation process.
Assistant Secretary-General Alexandre Zouev noted that COP29 was organized at a high level, conveyed his congratulations to our country on this occasion and wished success within the framework of the Presidency process.
Alexandre Zouev, noting that he participated in high-level events organized within the framework of COP29, stated that thematic meetings dedicated to various topics were useful in terms of exchange of views.
It was emphasized that the work carried out by our country in the direction of combating the mine threat is commendable, and that, in particular, the declaration of humanitarian mine action as the 18th National Sustainable Development Goal is an example in the fight against this international threat.
Along with humanitarian mine action, the importance of implementing joint projects in the direction of rehabilitation of mine victims was noted.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
