No:449/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Jorge Moreira da Silva, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services

On 15 November 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Jorge Moreira da Silva, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services, within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

 

At the meeting, issues standing on the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the United Nations, as well as arising from our COP29 Presidency, and prospects for expanding cooperation were discussed.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information on the preparatory works for COP29 and highlighted that close cooperation with the United Nations within this framework is one of our main priorities.

 

The negotiation process conducted within the framework of COP29 was discussed, and confidence was expressed that the achievements obtained, as well as the active discussions held during other high-level events organized within the framework of COP29, will contribute to climate action.

 

It was noted that green technologies are widely applied in our country’s green energy and development initiatives at the national level, particularly within the framework of the large-scale restoration and construction works carried out in the liberated territories. It was stressed that one of the main threats to our country’s restoration and construction efforts in the region is the continuing mine threat, and that international cooperation is important in combating the mine danger threatening the life and health of our citizens.

 

The other side noted that Azerbaijan’s application of an approach of close cooperation precisely with the United Nations during the organization of COP29 is commendable, and that the session was organized at a high level, and wished our country success in its Presidency activities.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
