No:448/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives

On 15 November 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

 

During the meeting, prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Maldives in a number of fields, including economic, investment, tourism, humanitarian and other areas, as well as issues arising from our COP29 Presidency, were discussed.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, noting the importance of the visit of a high-level delegation from the Republic of Maldives to our country within the framework of COP29, stressed that such contacts are important in terms of discussing prospects for bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

 

It was emphasized that there are important prospects for cooperation between our countries in the fields of economy, investments and trade, and that it is important to increase mutual trade turnover by using these opportunities.

 

The importance of reviewing existing opportunities in the field of tourism and considering issues of mutual visa facilitation in terms of strengthening mutual contacts between our peoples was noted.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side in detail about our COP29 Presidency and expressed confidence that we will cooperate in a mutually beneficial manner during the Presidency.

 

Minister Abdulla Khaleel congratulated Azerbaijan on its Presidency of COP29 and wished success in our country’s leadership of efforts to combat climate change.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.

 

Later, the signing between the Ministers of the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Maldives on mutual exemption from visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, service and official passports” and the “Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of tourism between the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Maldives” took place.
