No:372/25, Press release on the evacuation of 14 Palestinian students from the Gaza region to study in our country

19 September 2025 15:20

Within the framework of the “Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant” program of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 14 Palestinian students who have earned the right to pursue higher education in our country have been evacuated from the Gaza region.

The evacuation process carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs began on 17 September, and 10 of these students were welcomed this morning at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, while the reception of the remaining 4 students is expected in the coming hours.

The evacuation of the students from Gaza and their transfer to our country was carried out with the direct participation of the embassies of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Israel and Jordan, as well as with the support of our representative office in Palestine, as a result of ongoing contacts and agreements reached with the relevant state authorities of Israel and Jordan.

The students arriving in our country were received by representatives of the relevant higher education institutions and accommodated in dormitories with the organization of the Ministry of Science and Education.

It should be noted that based on the nominations submitted by the State of Palestine, 8 of these students were admitted to the “Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant” program last year, and 6 were admitted this year.

The ongoing military operations and the unstable situation in the region made it impossible for the students admitted last year to arrive in our country. In this regard, based on the requests received from the students and the request of the Palestinian side, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has been working since May of the current year to bring the students to our country. The students were transported by land from Gaza to Jordan, and then their flights from the city of Amman, the capital of Jordan, to Baku were organized by air transport.
