No:357/24, Press release on consular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran

On 23 September 2024, the next consular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran were held in Baku.
At the consultations, the delegation of Azerbaijan was headed by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the delegation of Iran was headed by Alireza Mahmoudi, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Within the framework of the consular consultations, the Iranian delegation was received by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Samir Sharifov, and during the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the current state of cooperation between the two countries and the development of this cooperation.
Officials of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the State Customs Committee, and the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the consultations.
During the negotiations, issues such as prospects for the development of bilateral relations in the consular field, protection of the rights and freedoms of the citizens of the two countries, including opportunities to provide necessary consular and legal assistance to citizens who have faced difficulties in certain directions, extradition of persons on the international wanted list, and transfer of persons sentenced to deprivation of liberty to the countries of their citizenship for serving the remaining part of the sentence were reviewed.
At the same time, within the framework of the consultations, issues of cooperation between the internal affairs, border and customs authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran were touched upon.
